There isn’t a quick guide on self-help on hoarding that would be effective for a long term healing. There are several surveys that can help identify if a patient or a loved one has a hoarding problem but attempt to provide self-help to fix a hoarder. The main reason self-help isn’t for hoarders is because patients suffering from hoarding aren’t aware of their problem. Hoarding has become the life style of the person suffering. The constant moving items from one pile to the other or navigating through the tunnels/ paths is, for the hoarder, normal life. The person suffering doesn’t and can’t see the problems and can’t understand why saving all this stuff is dangerous. If a person can’t identify that they have a problem, they can’t get better.
